It all depends...... Some call redears shellcrackers, others call pumkinseeds shellcrackers. The term is used alot more in southern states where the fish actually "crack" shells....... snails freshwater shrimp, and other crustaceans. In my opinion they are referring to redears.........

I have a spot where I can catch several nice messes of them just prior to, and maybe a couple of weeks after Memorial day, after that seems like it's a rarity.

Yeah, we get quite a few of 'em up this way. It can be quite impressive when they're bedding.......

I get most of mine through the ice on Appleman Lake

There are some honkin' "crackers" in Shakamak too. Probably the biggest one I've ever seen came through the ice down there one year.

"CRACKER"!!!! "That's very mature...Rondel!!"

Not odd at all. Funnest way to catch 'em is on a fly rod!

Everyone was just saying how they "disappeared". Seem pretty consistent in cool mornings on a fly-rod to me. I'm excited...last night I just put some fresh tipet on my fly-rod. I might get a chance to knock them out sunday, if I get my turkey saturday.
