The Fort Wayne Gazette paper had a piece about the Morgan Buck and a picture of the buck it says the in the picture is John ferguson shows off the big buck shot by his son (Brian Ferguson). It is on the Boone & Crockett Club watch list. the article also say that a man name Bogucki said he was told it had a preliminary score of 220 and even with deducions for minor deformities it could have topped 200 and been a state record. Bogucke said, they were told Ferguson traded the antlers for an all terrain vehicle and a pickup truck.

I was at the Deer & Turkey Expo and talked to people in the know. We had tried and tried to get the deer there as a FEATURE and have it officially scored as a seminar. It was relayed to me that the deer had in fact been traded for a F150 pick up and a 4 wheeler.......

Guess time to let the deer rest in peace.......

I find it amusing that the hunter that shot that monster may have traded it for something else. To me, it shows that a rack was of consequence for him to be able to fill a tag. not necessarily that he was looking for such a monster. I guess what I am trying to say is that this goes to prove that, unlike what some seem to think, a big rack is not everything! :yikes: (I am sure that I will get some slack on this one!)

He must not of been after a big rack. Or maybe his old clunker just broke down and he had to do some horse-trading (er, deer-trading;) ) in order to get to work the next day!

In any event, it sure leaves the rest of us wondering!:dizzy:

Hey gang remeber the man in the pict. is not the one that killed the deer it was has son and I don't know the age of the boy. We don't know if the boy likes to hunt the way we do. I would never give up the horns but you know how kids are. Think about itwhen you were a kid, GIRLS run the streets and parking lots, and you got to have wheels to do that. Would it be nice if we knew the whole story.

It would have to be purdue cause that is the only school that would accept someone; dumb enough to trade a monster for a truck and an ATV. Look at Beatty. I saw that goofey looking dude on a hunting show the other day. That guy could probably stop working with all the money he makes off of taking his deer head to shows, and for letting Primos put his picture on their product. That guy has it made..... all because he blew a shot at an 8 pointer earlier and got lucky.. what a crock

Smack I heard was the son is around 19. Lots of informed individuals that I know seem to think maybe the rack was traded for 1/10 of what it is worth due to the circumstances surrounding the harvest. It seems everyone is biting on the truck and atv thing, good story. I think if I was selling that rack to the highest bidder at a private auction I would also tell everyone that lame story and have mister hrb spread it for me. Makes me look stupid to everyone while I am raking it in. Also known as collectively thumbing their nose at all us yahoos. You make the call.

I have conducted my own investigation into this story and here is what I found. For years the government has been hiding the fact that giant bucks have been flying over Area 51 north of Las Vegas. The buck in question after the last flyover took a left turn over Albuquerque on a heading towards Indiana. Exhausted from the long flight the buck crashed down over Morgan Co, landed on the boy’s mother and began servicing her as all bucks will do. Seeing this, the boy shot the buck, then fell into a state of shock, that’s why Dad checked in the deer. A reporter for the National Enquirer witnessed the event, paid the family to gain exclusive rights to the story. First installment for the story was a truck, atv AND a lifetime supply of chewing tabacco. Future installments will be paid by the rag when photos of the ½ human ½ buck baby are published. The US government filed suit against the rag to stop the story fearing they would have to initiate a DRAW for hunters into Area 51. And now you know….the rest of the story….Good Day!

One man's ceiling is another man's floor.... A truck, ATV, and most likely a trailer, $30,000 or so...Humm, I,ve heard of less money paid out to other's for simular "top 5" deer.... A simular "typical scored" top 5 Kansas buck brought much less by Cabela's and I've personally seen a top 5 non-typical harvested in Ohio in 2004 fell well short of a new truck, ATV, etc. in cash value...

Ps.. In both cases the above shooter's recieved full credit for the harvest and the right to reproduce the mount anytime they saw fit. To me fame from the B&C crowd, local legend statis, and a good five figure payday is a great weekend of deer hunting in central Indiana.....

Any thought?

Indianahunter, You asked for some thought, so here goes....

This buck is a monster, regardless of score. Becoming a "local legend" obviously isn't a concern in this situation. As far as anyone knows, this buck has never been scored. If someone was interested in becoming a "local legend" don't you think the person would get it scored and then market the thing for all it's worth? Maybe not....

Everyone who knows anything in this industry realizes that establishing a net score will set the price of the rack...should someone want to sell it. "Status from the Boone and Crocket crowd"? I have no clue what you mean there. There are more 200" Typicals out there than most people believe there are.

"5 figure payday"? Sam Collora shot the highest gross scoring typical ever shot with a bow in Henry County, Iowa in 1996. Sam has been offered boatloads (6 figures plus) of money for his rack and has never, EVER considered selling it. Nor will you find Sam's buck in the Iowa deer hunting records. Sam, a great friend, cares nothing about money, being a "local legend", or having "status from the Boone and Crockett crowd". And, he is also a national hero, but cares little about this tag that others have put on him. He's so humble, that it hurts. Sam believes in God above, and is just happy to have had the opportunity to harvest the "Collora Buck". He's killed 2 Boone and Crockett bucks since then....

If I'd have shot this buck, I'd never, ever in a million years trade it for a truck, quad and a trailer. The truck will rust and quit running some day, as will the quad and trailer....but the rack would look good on someone's wall for years and years thereafter. If this buck truly will net around 200" Typical, it would be worth way more than 35,000 dollars...if you're really into money that much.

By the way can you please tell us all which Kansas buck, and Ohio Non-Typical from 2004 that you are talking about? Give us score, hunter's name, etc. if you could. I'd also like to know how you know exactly what price was paid for these racks.....?

Nice post Dean. Get real gang I would never sell a buck that size for money. But now like me think about this, what if you were sick and did not know if you were going to make it home again, what if you had lost your job with six months and two days to retirement, what if you lose $579,000 in stock and that was your retirement and your 59 years old. Then would you sell it, yes this is looking at it a different way, and this did happen to me. But you know life go on no matter what happens and NO I would still not sell that a big buck head. We sometimes look at things a different way and maybe who ever kill this huge buck (IF THEY DID) just maybe they needed money more they a deer head. Just stop and give it a thought.
