Ok, if you have to catch fish...what's your go to bait...the one you have the most confidence in.
Mine's a Zoom Trick Worm rigged wacky. Ever since a friend of mine introduced this set up to me, I've gotten better at it and feel good with it.

Chartreuse and white spinnerbait. Although it's not my favorite thing to throw, it is ver versatile and a fish catcher.
I would much rather throw uncle sinko's, buzzbaits, or just about anything else.
WAR
Bettle Spin or small crankbait.

We hit 'em pretty hard last night ;) , my method of getting all the fish in the lake dizzy with my dazzling performance on the trolling motor seemed to be the key!!!
You can almost smell the fear in Dean when he goes up against the team of 410 & Quail!!! I know 410 is holding some special lures back for just that occation.

Yes the banjo minnow thing was a joke.
To be honest, if i'm bass fishing...spinnerbaits, white/chartuse or blue/yellow
panfishing or just search casting...inline spinnerbaits Yellow/silver or when flyfishing an olive marabou nymph...those are my "go to" baits the high percentage of the time.
All of these baits have one thing in common...I can vary the speed easily while fishing any of them, cover water fast...or really probe specific spots in detail.
If I had to catch fish to eat or starve, I'd be throwing a yellow 3" grub on a 1/4 oz. head...nothing else.

You see, Quail, I have answered the only part of the question...but if you must know, I would be throwing this grub in a lake that hasn't been contaminated by the curse you carry with you!
