Does anyone down around Cecil Harden know much about the walleye fishing opportunities there?
Is it worth trying down there in the spring right after ice out?

The only people I know who fish Racoon for walleyes fish for them in the fall. They catch fish, but not a lot of them. They get some nice ones, but not many of them.

Thanks fellas. I was told by the district biologist that they haven't stocked the reservoir since the early 1990s.

If you're heading that direction you'd be better off fishing Cataract...one of the highest densities of walleyes in the state and hardly anyone fishes for them.

Yes I have fished for walleye in Raccoon. We have caught some nice walleyes. I havent fished it this year, but have in years past. I mainly fish Raccoon creek now which has very nice walleyes. I like wading the creek fishing for them, but fishing the lake is fun as well. I just hate all the boaters out there this time of year. If you fish it make sure you toss a few by the rip rap by the dam. We've caught some nice ones there...

I'm told that there really aren't that many 'eyes in Raccoon. Is it true, or is it worth trying anyways? Is Raccoon Creek a part of Cecil Harden?

Cecil Harden and Raccoon Lake are one and the same. Raccoon Creek comes from the letdown of Raccoon Lake at the spillway. My bet is the best walleye fishing starts at the spillway. I haven't fished it in years but one day I was there a couple of guys had some dandy stringers of 'eyes. All I caught was rainbow trout and some other little trouty looking thing...not sure what species it was. The only 'eye I ever caught up there was on the lake but I only caught one. I have heard there is decent 'eye fishing at the Bridgeton Bridge Dam in Bridgeton, IN which is also part of Raccoon Creek. Jack said it best...Cataract would be the better bet on walleyes.

My biggest walleye was 7lbs out of Raccoon creek. That came from the bridge North of hwy 41. I have caught numerous walleyes along the creek from Bridgeton north. Raccoon creek runs north. Ive caught around 20 walleyes this year while wading or canoeing. Just a week ago I caught a 3lb small mouth while canoeing. The only thing I use is a white jig head and white mister twister body. There are times they will tear it up. :fish:
