Hi! I'm new to this site. I was brousing the internet yesterday to see if anyone was talking about the rut this year and thought I would become a member. Everything I read says the rut is November 14, 15, 16. But I have only seen one buck chasing a doe in Parke county. That was last saturday. Hopes are high for this weekend.

The chase period typically takes place the week before the peak rut. During the peak rut, most decent sized bucks have already found their does and are bedding with them and mainly following them everywhere. Hunt the does during the rut--the bucks are around too, but sometimes they just don't make themselves as visible. As far as your dates, they are close. The rut varies a little every year, but generally is around Nov 10-15, plus or minus a few days. If you don't get your deer then, wait 3-4 weeks for the late rut. They'll be moving a lot during that time as well.

I know, that is why I was suprised to only see one buck chasing last week. Just wanted to see what everyone else had been seeing?

I think the reason you are not seeing much chasing is because a lot of the bucks have gotten to the lock down phase. This mornign I saw four different bucks and doe groups locked down bedded or feeding in the middle of cut ag fields. NO CHASING just plain ole "lets get this done" activity. It will pick up in a about a week again when the bucks breed their respective does and begin to try and find new ones that are still in.

I hope so. If I could figure out a way I wouldn't even work Oct-Nov-Dec.I am in the woods every minute i'm not working. This is the first year that I haven't experienced the chase phase. I was kind of hoping it was just running a little late.

That's odd. I hunt in the county just north of Parke, in Montomery and for the last 2 weekend I've been seeing them chasing like crazy. I'm betting they will be locked up tight with the girls this weekend.
