View Full Version : The Coffee Pot

Mornin' Hoosiers,

Being new to this site, I could not find the morning coffee pot or any cyber-food for breakfast. Does this website offer a forum for general B.S.ing about anything or nothing? Heck, every outdoor website has a "Campfire", "Coffee Pot", "Water Cooler", or some type forum whare folks chat about anything & everything.

Just a suggestion, that's all.

So let me start it off by offering this pot of Folgers Dark Roast. In honor of the opening of deer season this weekend, I made this in my old camp coffee perculator I take to deer camp and on campouts. You know, there is nothing better than coffee perked over a campfire. There is a heck of a difference in the flavor of perked coffee and the drip style we are all accustomed to now days.

So grab yerselves a cup of camp coffee and pull up a chair. We'll sit here by the wood stove and shoot the bull for awhile. Are you ready for the weekend opener? I am. I am pumped. I would love to see this cool weather last through the weekend, but I'm afraid it is gonna warm back up some.

Have a good day folks.
-Dan- ;)

I'm with you the cold and wind can stick around. Keep those deer moving. I would reallly like to see a fine dusting of snow.

Beagleman_Dan
11-10-2005, 11:04 AM
Amen to that thought Ice Dude. It has been many, many moons since I remember snow on opening day. I think it was 1974 opener in Southern Michigan. I killed a real nice 8-point that day.

If you're a bird hunter, you live for snow...makes everything easier for the hunter and the dog.

Birds sit tighter....easier to spot them when they fall....scenting conditions much easier on a dog....fun to track them in the snow.

and..............it's prettier out.

Oh ya, there's nothing better than hunting in the snow. deer stick out like a sore thumb. too bad it is going to warm up, but oh well, as long as the rut is in and people are out moving deer around, there's a good chance to see something.

Beagleman_Dan
11-10-2005, 07:52 PM
Yes, the rut is in full force, and that is gonna help a lot. Some years it seems the rut is over or about over by opening day, but not this year.

Late season pheasant hunting in the snow. Now there's a cup of Joe for ya. Best hunt I ever had was one afternoon at a reserve up here in northwest Indiana when the wind was light, there was 5 inches of powder on the ground and flakes coming down. Late afternoon and I remember actually hearing the birds calling as they were coming in. Tally was one rooster and two quali from a covey that surprised me. Course I didn't get any on the first rise, but was lucky enough to walk them down. That was in 1976. Hmmm, Campfire coffee. Takes you back. Where's the kettle.

Beagleman_Dan
11-11-2005, 07:01 AM
I'll tell you something else that is a blast, and that is squirrel hunting after deer season is over, and there is snow on the ground. You can take some of them longer shots with no fear of not finding the squirrel on the ground.

Of course, with beagles and all, I just love listening to my dogs singing their song while I wait for Mr. bunny to come hopping by me. :bouncy: A few inches of snow, a couple beagles, rabbits, oh yeah, talk about fun.
-Dan- ;)

By the way, 30° here this morning. Coffee is on, and I've made a couple fried egg sandwiches. Help yourself.

Have a great day folks. And good luck this weekend.

Starbucks posted it's first loss since it's inception, quick Arps run down and save them with a cup. I went there once and when the kid told me how much I just paid him, drove off and never went back. Next day bought a grinder and now have fresh everyday for just about nothing. wife has to have hers in the morn or withdrawals set in and it's run for cover, me, take it or leave it Dr Pepper works just fine

Well sitting here finishing my last cup of Maxwell House Dark, man I could go for another, but work is waiting.

I gues the thing I missed growing up on the farm and working in my buddys construction business all those years ago, is I just never developed a taste for biscotti's.

I never saw one guy in a hard hat, or a Broadbeck seed corn hat sipping a french vanilla latte.
God Bless America!

Wow, I found another favorite, but it might be hard to come by once its gone.. A missionary from our church brought me back some Guatemalian coffee, it's dark and rich, you only use about a third of what you do with the regular coffee.

Man is it good. I think I'll use that as my "Private stock", But I might share a cup with my fellow sportsmen/women here from time to time.

Oh, and he said it goes great with deep fried plantains?

Well good morning, enjoy your weekend!

Good morning everyone,
Just finishing up my maxwell house and headed off to work, hope everyone had a great weekend.
Mine was alright, until I discovered someone had bumped into my truck messing up the paint & leaving a 16 inch scratch on the left rear fender.

Good Morning Everyone,
Just to show that I'm coffee-ically diverse, this morning I'm dringing my Maxwell House French roast, from a Starbucks coffee mug.

Now I'm really surprized that our guys in Indy haven't jumped in here with a report on the Einstien Brothers Bagel company coffee. I had some of that a couple weeks ago, and I tell you what, I would go out of my way for a cup of their premium house blend...

You all have a good day, get the week started off right, and remember this Friday is the squirrel season opener.

Heck, I just buy the Folgers Hazelnut coffee...then I don't have to add anything...Nothing wrong with flavored coffee.

If I'm not mistaken, early primative man (and Bigfoot today) flavored their coffees with whatever they had available. Today, Bigfoot drinks Jerky flavored coffee.

My Dad has always drank his coffee cold, he brews it then puts ice in it. I remember when I was a kid we were in a fine eatery in our home town one Sunday and the waitress asked if anyone would like pie and coffee after our meal dad accepted, and then when he asked for a cup of Ice for his coffee she was almost offended. And These youngan's think Starbucks invented chilled coffee....

Seriously though....

My wife....bless her heart....thinks that what she drinks is coffee.......nooooo......it's hot milk with some flavoring and a splash of coffee for technicality reasons.

The misto is 1/2 coffee 1/2 cream or 2% or in this case skim........don't laugh since I drink my coffee black and some of you have to put cream and sugar in your "Maxwell House". I also get 2 shots of espresso thrown in on top which gives it a full body flavor of COFFEE.....plus a flavoring of which I get a smidge less than what the norm is.

Gooood Morning Everyone..... It's Hump-day, and you all know what that means.

Does anyone remember Uncle Larry, & Little Tommy from WLS Morning Zoo(approx 1976-79)? Now they made Wednesdays fun. With Animal Stories & the Like.
Maybe we need to make it an animal story Wednesday?

Well off to the shop might have to ask for a shot of Hazelnut in my Jo this morning.

Drinking too much absinthe I suspect.

That stuff is flat out nasty. It's easily, far and away, the worst crap I have ever tasted. You can add as much sugar as you like...it just takes like sugary crap. But 3 shots, give or take, and I become the smartest/most talkative person on the planet (As if I needed assistance in either arena). Make sure you have nothing to do the next day too...those hangovers are absolutely not a joke. :banghead3

And it's legal again here for those of you who are gluttons for punishment or need to get some writing done :)

As you sip your jo this morning, and go about your day, remember those who perished needlessly, and those who are left to carry on without them.

I missed this yesterday. Well said.

Now I need some coffee...a long day of playing with accounting software that doesn't work and then, hopefully, maybe, possibly, if there's a higher power some sky carp tomorrow. I'd love for it to be a sloppy rainy mess tomorrow AM!!

Good Soggy Monday Morning to everyone, as of last evening we've had 6 3/4 inches of rain for the weekend.

Hope you're all still afloat.

Coffee please...darker than Charlie Murphy. What a weekend. Got soaked to the marrow Saturday but got some geese killed. Then packed ALL day and watched a lil ND over the girls from Ann Arbor. I woke up at 3:45 Sat. AM and didn't go to bed until after the USC v. OSU game...and then I packed all day yesterday. I need sleep...

Hope you all get outdoors this weekend and enjoy your favorite sporting activities.

GOOOD MORNING!!

First cup down the hatch.

Shaping up to be a great day! Sunshine, nice temps.

I'm hanging the stand either today or tomorrow morning. I hope I get to see some activity while I'm out there as well. I'm taking the blind and getting it set up this year as well.

Another Hump Day...
Hope you all are doing well.
Starting to see a lot of tree stands appearing in the woods just down the road from work. Looks like it should be a promising year.

If the rain holds off & the streams clear up a tad, the Steelhead & Kings should be in. Ah yes this is a sportsmans dream.

Good Luck everyone.

Whew, its Thursday again, throwing down the last of my Maxwell House French roast and heading off to the shop.. Evidently none of my Sporting brothers or sisters has hit the powerball, or at least they haven't "PM'd" me yet to say stay home.:cheeky-sm. I guess I'd better head on in.

Have a good one everybody.
