Never have I seen corn shelled in August, in Central Indiana. Corn harvest began last week. We will start beans next week. Corn's moisture is close to harvest ideal numbers around 18%.
There may be no standing corn come gun season for deer. Last year it was just the opposite, as corn stood into the new year, as deer gouged themselves on it.
The lack of standing corn in November may make for some different tactics and opportunities. Be safe.

Hey there,
Is anyone looking for a hunting partner this year? I haven't waterfowl hunted in a few years now but I'm looking to get back in to it. Unfortunately, I sold my boat and only have a few deeks left.
I'm a 42 yr old, father of three and a stay at home dad so I can hunt during the week too. I live in Bargersville, In. but I willing to drive a bit if needed. I also enjoy hunting just about anything else too. I bow hunt quite a bit and really enjoy bird hunting too. If anyone is interested please let me know. I'm looking forward to getting out.

Thanks

I wasn't going to post photos, but we have a forum member who deserves a plug. A couple weeks ago, I went down to Bass and Bucks and hooked up with my friend and fellow forum member, Jeremy ... aka monster10rackstack. Jeremy took a couple hours out of his busy schedule and let me shoot nearly every bow that Bass and Bucks had on the rack ... and let me tell you ... they have A LOT of bows. In the end, I settled in on exactly what I though I had wanted going in there, a new 2010 Elite GT500. I had Jeremy order me the exact bow that I wanted and yesterday I went to pick it up.

Now, I'm pretty picky on how my bow is set up. Personally, I set up all my own equipment, as I have my own press, vice, and draw board. I haven't let anyone touch my bows in several years. But I decided to let Jeremy have his hand at the initial set up and if needed I'd tweak it later. Guys I have to tell you, the guy knows his stuff on setting up a bow. He took his sweet time, he let me shoot it some, made adjustments, let me shoot it, made adjustments ... all while letting me provide my own input on the set up. I spent about 2 hours in there with him as we went over every aspect of the set up. And in the end, the bow is set up exactly how I would have done it on my own. It is crazy accurate, dead in hand, and fast.

A huge kudos to Jeremy, a good guy just doing his job. I'd encourage any of you guys to check him out at Bass and Bucks if you need a bow, need work done to your bow, or just need some advise on set ups or equipment.

Thank you Jeremy (monster10rackstack)!

So ... here is the new toy.
70#, 29" draw, and slinging my (heavy as hell as Jeremy would say) 415 gr. arrows at a blistering 292 fps.

Well 7 of us got together yesterday morning for the first goose hunt of the year. We had permission to hunt a freshly cut corn field that the night before was jam packed with with honkers. Geese decided to sleep in so the first group didn't head our way until after 8:00 and by 9:15 we had put the hurtin on the last of the 35. We got off to a bit of a shaky start on the shooting but the last two groups we hammered at had 7 and 9 birds in the bunch and we didn't leave a survivor out of either group, that was some awesome shooting. One of the funner goose hunts I have been on in a long while and got to meet a couple of great guys while doing it. There were plenty of birds in the air after the hunt so hopefully we will get on them again this weekend. I will see if I can get pics up later.

I'll probably regret this, but I'm selling my faithful hunting companion. This bow is in GREAT condition. Here is the skinny.

Mathews Switchback XT
RH, 70# limbs, 29 inch draw
New set of Buck Nasty strings, maybe 100 shots on them, ZERO peep rotation. Best strings out there, IMO.
Mathews 2 piece 5 arrow quiver. The quiver hood has one small dimple in it where I left a hair dryer in a spot too long while warming it to remove a worn out foam insert. It effects performance in no way and doesn't look bad, IMO, but pointing it out to be up front.
Torqueless grip. I'll also throw in the original grip ... if I can find it. But the Torqueless is the way to go on these bows.
Bow Rattler string stop.
Sims stabilizer.
Camo sling.

The bow is in GREAT condition. There is minimal finish wear on the front of the handle. There are no scratches or finish wears anywhere on the bow. Two small marks where the rest set screw was locked down, but can't be seen when a rest is on the bow. This bow has been my baby. It has put a leak in many an animal and won some tourney shoots as well. Probably the best hunting bow that Mathews has ever made.

All you have to do is put your own rest and sight on the bow.

Price is $550 picked up in Ashley, Indiana, about 3 minutes off the I-69 exit. $25 extra if I have to ship it. Price is firm.

Well I know that a lot of you have already gotten to hunt, but I'm just a freshman in high school with 10 planned days of missing school for hunting already so my opening day is Saturday.

i got this trailed wednesday night and since, I've been hard at work. First I varnished the entire interior. then came floor paint, I used outdoor deck paint with grip sand in it. After that I came up with a rack system for the decoys and decided to paint it a bold color. It really looks sharp.

Right now I've got three dozen hardcore's which pretty much maxed out my budget after blinds and dog expenses. i hope to add more next year.
Let me know what you think!
