I have standing corn all around the land I lease and have'nt seen much at all. A couple of scrapes and a few little rubs and that's it as of today 10/28/09 seems a bit slower than I expected. I did catch a trespasser on Tuesday at 600 am when I was in my stand waiting. Saw his flash light so I hit him with mine and he took off. Really ticked me off as you could imagine. I'm on vacation starting opening day of firearms and I really hope there are alot of bucks chasing does still at that time. Whats everyone think about my vacation period for hunting? I have 10 days in a row and was hoping for some good rut action.

It will still be a great time to be in the woods.

I've only had 1 season where the rut was full balls out during firearms. It was like it had started opening day and went on all through my vacation that year. Other than that it seems to be happening during the last week or so of archery which is fine becouse I love archery but you can't beat firearms during the rut in my opinion. Just seems right.

Today we had the best weather since the season started. 30 degrees, frost on the ground and it's November. I hunted from daybreak to sunset today and saw NOTHING!!!!!!! I can not believe the deer are not moving where I hunt. The corn is still standing all around my property which is'nt helping any. This land has produced some monsters back when my brother used to hunt it 15 years ago. The farmer has not let anyone hunt it for the last 10 years and my brother and I were able to lease it this year and I have had high hopes due to the pictures and mounts that I have seen from back in the day. This is the land I caught the trespasser on so it has probably been hunted without the land owners permission. I put out no trespassing signs a few days ago. I see turkey every time out which is cool but not many deer. I've seen about 6 does and 4 bucks. Good ratio if only they were showing themselves more often. I've only found about 3 or 4 scrapes and only a few small rubs. I did find 1 new scrape and 1 new rub today. Took a look around at 12:30 and then settled back into a different stand for the evening. This situation really has me down. The land is in Pulaski County 3 miles North of the JP public hunting land off of Starke and Pulaski County Line Rd. Do any of you guys hunt this area and if so what's been going on? The deer check in at the JP has'nt been seeing many come in compared to previous years is what I'm told by the DNR there. Any clues of what I could try or do? They should be in the pre rut and close to the rut and I've got nothing. Just can't believe it. Never had a year like this in the 10 years I've hunted. Sorry for the long post guys but I just don't know what the heck to do here.

Give it time...your next time out may just be the most exciting time in the woods.

You could very well be right seabee and I hope you are..lol This has just been a strange season to me. I could have stuck plenty of deer by now in most cases. I've let more deer walk year after year where I usually hunt by this time. I know I'm not the only one not seeing much from what I've read on this sight so atleast it's not just me and my property I guess. I'll be out again on Tuesday and will probably do another all day sit. Vacation starts for me on opening day of firearms so maybe that's when all the magic will happen if I'm lucky. Sure would like to stick a decent doe for the meat before then though.

Any of you guys that were or are in the same boat have any luck or have you seen any changes for the better?

I went out yesterday morning. I had 2 deer within bow range, a button and a spike. Other than that I only saw 2 other deer, a different spike chasing a doe all over the place.

I skipped out on the evening hunt. Tired of not seeing anything and after this morning I doubt things would have changed that much tonight. My next day to hunt will be on Sunday. I sure as hell hope something changes for the better by then. My vacation starts on the 14th and at this point I'm not too excited like I once was. Really down about this whole not seeing any deer thing. I've never in my life experienced a season like this. The darn corn is still up all around my woods as of today. I can't wait for the farmer to harvest it. Heck, I could have shot deer in my back yard 100 times already but I live in city limits...lol

I had this last year. I was Not seeing anything in the woods. Seeing them everywhere, on the drive home. On the last day of m/l, 100 yards from the truck, and out of vacation days, I got a med. size doe. In a few more mins. I would have been at the truck, and my season was pretty much over. Never give up. And never stop hunting until you get back to the truck.
Not sure, but I think, more deer will seen in the next 3 weeks, than we have seen in a few years. Just my .02 cents.
