MOUNTAIL LION in the Midwest and Southern United States.

Recently wild cougar have been confirmed in parts of the midwest in places they were thought to be gone. The truth is wild cougar probably never left rurual parts of the south and midwest. I think that proabably 99 percent of cougar were wiped out of the midwest and south, but maybe 1 percent survived under the radar, and over time they have reproduced and expanded, which would explain the high number of cougar sightings. Wild cougar have been recently confirmed in Illinois, michigan, wisconsin, iowa, new york state, maine, missouri, west virginia, and last week a cougar was caught on a trail cam in ohio, near salt fork state park where I 70 and I 77 intersect. In Kentucky there have been dozens of credible cougar sightings lately, even the DNR says they have seen cougar in Mamoth Cave National park. So it is fascinating that cougar have been living right under everyones nose and they are beeing confirmed in places all over the midwest and south, has anyone heard anything about this?

yes... cougar/mountain lion have a breeding range of like 60-90 miles. It doenst take a large concentration of cats to have a breeding population.. I hunted them once in idaho with a reputable guide who had been hunting them for 30 years in that state. he said he has never seen a mountain lion in the wild his entire life unless it was treed by one of his dogs. He finds lots and lots of tracks of course, but has never seen a cat. Even in the mountain lion capital of the world, they arent something people see very often when walking through the mountains.

One living around here would have a harder time going unseen for too long but they arent stupid in my opinion.

I have heard the sightings are increasing in the midwest as well.

IMO - i dont think we have too many of those around here though.. I do think we have a few though

A bow hunter north of peru has cell phone pics and missed the cat with his bow. Go to herald journal online, that's the monticello paper for sat. Front page here kitty kitty. IDNR confirmed mountain lion sightings through tracks and actually saw it themselves while tracking in the corn field.

The online link to the news story is at:

Sorry to question this, but I have heard these stories my whole life and they never lead to a wild cougar population in Indiana. We had a cougar in Harrison County a few years back that terrified a local lady on her evening walks in the country. Authorities ended up actually trapping the cat in a cage. It ended up being a de-clawed cougar that someone had turned loose when it got to big to handle.

Kentucky cougars

Most of the cougar are in illinois and missouri and I could easily see how cougar could live in kentucky, the state has 12 million acres of forest, and over 800,000 deer and they now have a wild elk population of over 5,000. Go to google and search www.illinoismountainlions.com and www.michiganmountainlions.com also try www.iowamountainlionsightings.com

I hope you will find this interesting.

There have been sightings of cougars in Steuben County as well. Two that I know of. Possibly the same cougar, I have no clue how much ground they can cover! I would imagine it is quite a lot. One was caught on a trail camera by a relative of mine and confirmed by the DNR.

LMAO....not y'all too...the mysterious black panther is the craze down in Georgia....everyone's brothers aunts sister has seen one crossing an old country road. Its amazing though that out of the thousands upon thousands of hunters with trail cams in the woods down here, not ONE single pic of a black panther or cougar or whatever you wanna call em'. and its always someone seeing one cross a road...yet never a hunter seeing one in the woods during a deer hunt.............seems like some redneck would have shot one by now...lol....
