no deer. made a new friend in the woods. a nice loving hawk snatched up one of the loudest squirrels for breakfast 10 yards from my stand. come back for his twin, please.
Beautiful night out tonight. Saw three does and a mid 120" buck opening evening. Hoping to see some early movement tonight! Good luck all. Shoot straight!
Yesterday Evening I decided to take a trip to Brookville and hunt my favorite public land spot I found last year. On that first sit I took a doe and had been itching to get back. Well I didn't even have my bow off the ground yet and wam a doe ran by. Then I saw 2 turkeys and they roosted not far from me. About dark thirty I look behind me coming up from the water is a doe. I turn and watch her eat but still to far away. Then I look back to the corn and huge doe coming. I turned then 3 more came in all within 30 yards, I decided to go ahead and harvest one for some meat although not the biggest and won't give a lot of meat I did get to harvest one. Shot just a bit high after my shot, the biggest doe stood there. 5 minutes go by and all these dadgum does are doing exactly what they were before my shot and didn't spook or nothing. Laid the carpet red for sure with the Rage Hypodermic. So I am working OT for the next couple of weeks and then hitting it again come next weekend in Bloomington warming up for the Rut. I will return to Brookville and I'll post pictures on lunch. Incredible day in the woods though.
Saw my first ever b&c deer from the stand tonight. Snuck in to 15yds behind me. He never knew i was there when he transitioned out of the field to the woods he never offered a shot....i was shaking so bad i probably would have missed anyway. Lol
630 last night. Really really calm. Waled right through the oak flat that has acorns everywhere. I found it very odd he was by himself. I have never dealt with a deer of this caliber before. He just filtered through and went on his way. I know he ran into 2 does that came from where he went 5 mins later.
Despite the strong winds and rain yesterday morning. I seen 2 buck & 6 does, within a 2-1/2 hour period, and they were all on pins & needles (skittish).
I took a walk in the afternoon and found 2 rub lines (fresh) and a ton of single rubs, plus quite a few scrapes.
Early evening, watch a big body, tall rack buck chasing 2 does up and down the firebreaks for about 10 minutes before disappearing into the corn.
In Newton county, saw 7 Deer all does. Too far for shot. This cool weather had them out to eat! Finally!
