Is anyone seeing any grays? They are basically extinct here in west central Indiana. We've tried calling many spots, as well as trap, where we have been successful in the past, like back in the 80's early 90's, and now nothing. I think the DNR needs to do some research and consider changing the season/bag limit on gray fox.

I've seen both red an gray hunting in porter co...along with reddish blonde foxes with blackish back patches...wonder if they are mixing...when I say blonde I mean blonde like a sexy beach blonde...very odd..with black back backs and red tail an feet...kinda cool. Interracial fox loving going on.

I trap greys every year. Reds to. Their populations are not what they used to be since the yotes have prospered so well but they are still around. Fox have very small home ranges. I used to trap in kentuckey and tennesse alot and the havbitat down there is alot better for fox. To many farmers are destroying their habbitat. Less habbitat and more yotes is why are populations are down!

there are more fox than you think, just cuz ya don`t see them doesn't mean there not around. for instance I trap at least 8-10 a yr and most are in areas that are urban outskirts (close to houses and farms) seems the yotes are pushing them closer to people and areas were yotes aren't seen to often. I have been seeing alot more of them on my farm since I have been trapping and calling yotes to thin them out..

I have seen many reds on the property I hunt in porter county and where i live in laporte county. I've seen 6 different mature reds while in my stand or on my trail camera. One with a lot of black on his legs and ears. Very pretty so I took him with my bow and am having a full body mount done. The rest of them will walk if they come by. I also have a TON of coyotes around my house. Hear them almost every night

I also think there are alot more red fox than people think, I can't begin to tell you how many times I have seen a flash of eyes at night (a very fast flash) just to have it disapear into the darkness and when i stop to look real close its a fox. I have done my part to trap and call the yotes as much as possible in our area to, but the reds are definetely rebounding very well. Better watch the chickens and the cats, I have had calls from two people asking me to trap for them this coming season because both have came up missing. So I set up my trail cam to investigate (you get ALOT of pictures when people have cats by the way),and sure enough ol mister red fox was the culprit.

I live in east-central Morgan County just north of Martinsville and we have seen red fox and bobcat population explosion. We have the coyotes like every one else.

No gray foxes! In my 34 years I have seen only one gray fox and that was on my grandpa's woodlot in the late 1980's. I have seen plenty of red fox. Coyotes kill most of them!

Most of the populations of greay fox are in southern Indiana in the areas where there is heavy contigous forest tracts like Hoosier National Forest and Brown County.

I live South of Otterbein, fairly close to Independence blacktop. Which is pretty brushy and good gray fox habitat. I've caught 6 reds in the past three years, a lot of coyotes but have never even seen a gray. I have even put out sets specifically for a gray fox. It's good to hear that you are catching around 8-10 a year. My grandpa and I have tried calling a few spots in the area using his old cassette player with the "gray fox pup". Even spots where he has killed doubles in years past, and nothing.

That is exactly what I observe here, I trap greys outside the farms and graveyards that but up against Bloomfield, reds are around the barnyards and in town, my best red trapping spot is on the IU campus. I also trap greys around Griffy Lake in Bloomington. The fox are smart, like little kids, stay next to the grownups or the bullies will get ya. I to also have more fox on my farm, since I slaughter every yote that steps on the place.
