I am opening the 2018 Spring Team Turkey Contest - Some guys/gals are hunting Early to mid-March. As stated below you must be signed up no later than 5pm eastern time March 20th to be entered. Teams will be posted by March 21st (If you are hunting extreme south FL or Hawaii let me know as they open 3/4 and 3/1 respectively- If you harvest a bird prior to the contest officially opening PM or email me the picture and stats I will enter it for you at that time. If you don't send me the entry and picts it will no be allowed). If you sign up late I will place members as needed on a backup list. Let us know you are in and also what states you think you will be hunting. Invite your friends in and let's have a great safe season. I will post single spots as needed for drops or for holes to bring teams even.

I will also have an alternate list I will start after the sign up closes in case we have no shows- YOU MUST CHECK IN ON YOUR TEAM THREAD TO BE COUNTED AS IN.

Please include your species of turkey killed. This is to help me do the best of at the end of the season.
Culling a bird is allowed. So if you kill a bird out of state, score it and enter it and then kill a bigger eastern or other bird you may bump the first bird.

PLEASE STATE WHAT SPECIES OF TURKEY YOU TAKE SO I CAN CREATE THE BEST OF AT THE END OF THE SEASON!

We will run it the same way we did last year and guys remember that this is for fun and camaraderie not to be taken seriously. The good points are that we had a number of guys take their first bird last year because of this site....How great is that. You must be signed up no later than 5pm March 10th and I will take entries until May 31st at midnight. I will again post the winning team no later than 6/5.

ALL BIRDS MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN 7 DAYS AFTER HARVEST AND YOU MUST BE IN THE PHOTO. DATE OF HARVEST MUST BE INCLUDED IN REPORT. ALSO IF YOU HAVE A MULTI-BEARD BIRD A PHOTO OF THE BEARDS AND BASES MUST BE INCLUDED. IF ANY OF THESE STEPS ARE LEFT OUT THE BIRD WILL NOT BE COUNTED. IF YOU CONTACT ME ANYWAY OTHER THAN THROUGH INDIANA SPORTSMAN WEBSITE THAT INFO WILL NOT BE ALLOWED, THIS IS AN INDIANA SPORTSMAN CONTEST NOT FACEBOOK. IF YOU HAVE A TECH ISSUE AND CAN'T ADD KILL INFO OR PHOTOS CONTACT ME AND I WILL WORK YOU THROUGH THE ISSUES.

The new rules will be strictly enforced- as we have had a few hunters tried to submit birds that left questions and when follow up photos or info was requested they were unable to provide proof of claims. I don't want to make this no-fun, but because of the actions of a few we must tighten up the rules a bit.

Our returning champs and they are team #4. These members still need to check in and confirm their participation in the contest.
Team #4
bonecollector14
Honker-Konker
Buck blaster
bigred198
Big Dave

If they choose to keep the band together for next season they will be team #1 and have the opportunity to defend!

And will automatically be TEAM # 1 if they all want to be together again.

Teams will be equal number teams if there are leftover folks we will work them in and will do and average of the team total.

Example Team 5 has a 6 person team and all 6 take birds with a team score of 350 points, that obviously isn't fair to all the 5 member teams. The 350 will be divided by 6 and the team will score an average of 291.

You can sign up as individuals or as a team, just post here and tell us what states you will be hunting in, just so we know (remember that you can ask for a person to be included, but they need to be a member and they have to let me know to be included).

For this contest we will be using the NWTF scoring calc.

http://www.nwtf.org/hunt/records/score

You may submit your best scoring bird (Eastern/Osceola/Rio/Merriam) taken with legal hunting equipment(shotgun, bow, mzldr) to add to your teams total.

NWTF SCORING INFO

Step 1: Weigh your bird in pounds and ounces and convert ounces to decimal form.

Step 2: Measure each spur. Spurs must be measured along the outside center, from the point at which the spur protrudes from the scaled leg skin to the tip of the spur. Add both spur measurements and multiply the combined length of the spurs by 10. This is the number of points you receive for the turkey's spurs.

Step 3: Measure the beard length (a beard must be measured from the center point of the protrusion of the skin to the tip) and convert it to decimal form.

Next, multiply the beard length figure by 2; this is the number of points you receive for the beard length. If you have an atypical bird (multiple beards), measure each beard, convert them to a decimal number, then add those figures together and multiply by two. This is the number of points you receive for your turkey's beards.

Step 4: Add together the weight, the points for spurs and points for beard(s): This is the score you receive for your turkey.

Please post any questions or PM me. If you do not have a team, I will fill teams from the individual members. unless you state otherwise (i.e so and so and us are a team). PM me your team name if you want one.

As always I am not above making a mistake. Please PM me if I leave you off a team. I had that happen last year and was informed very late in the season. We got it fixed, but I don't want to forget someone. THANKS!!!

I know I couldn't add my nephew to our team last year after we won in 2016. Look like the rules say you can enter as a team or as an individual.
It's kind of nice contest with my sons and a couple of my nephews, but I can understand why some may want us split up. My youngest son is using a wing bone this year, so that should add to the challenge some.
