I am 16 and I have been doing a lot of hide tanning, but I haven’t been able to get my hands on anything bigger than a raccoon. I would love some deer or coyote skins. If y’all are throwing them out I’d like to put them to good use. Even scraps would be useful for practice. Willing to come get them from anyone who is nearby. I live real close to Fort Harrison in Indy. Please respond if you can help.

another ?. is there a lot of fleshing to deer hide? they seem to come off pretty clean for me. i guess thats because they are warm still when i do them these days. i stopped gutting in the field to help keep the yotes looking elsewhere.

thats actually a good idea. up here I 30 has fresh deer kill on it every other day or so. or used to when i was traveling it years ago. maybe with population dwn its not so hot. i never turn dwn a fresh RK. key is to loin quarter and leave guts in there without opening it up! like they do out west to pack it out.

I saw your post the other day and have been wanting to try some tanning. I have some muskrat stretched and dried that I am going to experiment with. I did get a nice one for the freezer last weekend with my ML, deer that is not muskrat , going to practice on it, but if I get the chance to harvest another, I will get a message too you. Good Luck.

You could do like Jeffrey Dahmer did, ride around with his dad hunting road kill. Haha.
Haha yeah! It would seem it’s hard to get someone to drive me around, for some reason they don’t want dead animals in their car 😂, but if I could drive I’d be grabbing everything I could find. There’s so many furs and potential leather waisted.
