Deer Bundle question

784 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  PRED
With the deer bundle license, any doe taken with that license has to be tagged as a bonus antlerless, during any season, correct? And if hunting on public land that doesn't allow the use of Bonus Antlerless tags, I can't use the bundle to take a doe, because it counts as a bonus in that case?

The regs seem to confirm my understanding, but I want to be sure.

ask the ones that know for sure. [email protected].

i dont need to buy so i cant help ya for sure. the way i read it is you can shoot a buck and 2 doe? you just cant shoot more than your county's quota. never hunted much public land so im really in the dark there. lol sounds like some dnr properties dont allow doe harvest? they must have really screwed up the licenses in the last several years!!!! i see and hear lots of questions being asked these days.

You are able to "use/fill" your archery/crossbow or muzzleloader license with an antlerless on public ground since they are either "sex". You just can not use it as a "bonus antlerless" tag on public ground.

The bundle can be used to take a deer with equipment legal during the archery (this includes crossbows), firearms, or muzzleloader seasons. Antlerless deer harvested with the deer license bundle must be used toward the bag limit for bonus antlerless deer, archery, or muzzleloader.

The above answer is correct. The point is that, whatever tag is used, you still have to count it toward your antlerless quota.

This strategy is the opposite of what you do on private land, which is to always use BA tags first so that you can reserve your archer/ML tag for another deer of either sex (ie you can still hunt bucks instead of being restricted to antlerless only).
my strategy on private land is to drop a buck before gun season starts. a lot more does than bucks after opening weekend around farm country. the big ones spend a lot more time running at night after that too, from my trail cams opinion.

Maybe I wasn't clear...what I mean is IF YOU SHOOT A DOE then you would want to use your BA tag on it, NOT your archery/ML tag. The classic mistake is shoot a doe on opening day of ML and use your ML tag on it. Then you can't take a buck with your ML.

I was only referring to how to actually use the tags, not the order in which you choose to shoot your deer. Thanks for the clarification.
im glad i dont have to deal with buying a license. it sounds like its getting as bad as water fowling. should be just one "deer license" then you buy more and stay in the county quotas. what does all the bs do better?
