If you could have only one varmit gun what caliber would it be and why?
Tough one. I use the one I have , a 25-06. My wife likes the 243. Most guys would a 220 Swift or 22-250.
This round has been my friend for a long time. I did the research before purchasing a centerfire 22 rifle and the ballistics and numbers looked best through the 22-250. I've taken a lot of game with mine, everything from crows to whitetails, and with proper shot placement and rage selection it can handle the job. Because I am such an advocate for the 22-250 people often ask me which caliber would be my second choice... secondly I'd lean toward the 243.
.223, because that's what I already have and I have taken lots of game with it. Coyotes, foxes, prarie dogs, marmots. I also like it because the ammo is pretty cheap!
Thats what I am leaning towards and cheap and plentiful ammo is a big factor for me...
