    Indianapolis-Marion County City-County Council
    to Take-Up Firearms Discharge Ban!
Please Attend the Rules and Public Policy Committee Meeting on Tuesday, May 22!

On Tuesday, May 22, the Indianapolis-Marion County City-County Council Rules and Public Policy Committee will consider Proposal 174. This onerous measure will effectively prohibit the discharge of firearms within the City-County limits. Rather than focusing on enforcing existing state law to address the reckless and illegal discharge of firearms, the Council is poised to punish law-abiding gun owners for the acts of irresponsible gun owners.

Please make plans to attend the Rules and Public Policy Committee hearing on Tuesday, May 22 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 260 of the City-County Building, 50 North Alabama Street, Indianapolis.

Regardless of whether or not you plan on attending Tuesday's hearing, please contact your Councilor and the four "at-large" Councilors listed below, and strongly encourage them to oppose any changes to he current City-County ordinances regarding the discharge of firearms. Be sure to remind the Committee members that Indiana state law already provides the necessary tools to address illegal and reckless firearms use, and the Council should first make an effort to enforce these laws before considering any proposal that places restrictions on law-abiding gun owners!

  2. once again
your civil liberties are compromised because of the actions of someone else..
we keep getting punished other peoples mistakes. Lets hope you guys can beat this thing...
  3. I sure hope everyone who can will attend. A strong consistent showing may help discourage this type of law not only in Marion County, but elsewhere to boot.
  4. The proposal was sent to the full council with a "no pass" recommendation. Rarely does the full council override the recommendation of the committee. It is possible but not probable. A full victory would have been the withdrawal of the issue but this is almost as good although not as certain. The full council will meet on June 12th I think.

Pretty good turnout. Of the estimated 35 speakers no one supported the proposal.

  5. Thats good news, Thanx for the update Jack!
  6. The full City-County Council will vote on this proposal on Monday, June 11, 2006. Even though the public likely won't be allowed to comment we should all try to be present to insure the defeat of this legislation.
