Five Year Old Boy Drowns at Monroe Reservoir Beach

    Bloomington, IN

At 3:00 PM on July 16, 2007 five year old Zack Colvin drown while swimming with his ten year old sister and thirteen year old cousin. He was visiting the Paynetown Recreation Area Beach with his aunt. While his aunt was distracted, Zack tried to follow the older girls into deeper water. As soon as his aunt noticed he was not above the water, she immediately began searching the beach. A water search was organized using the patrons at the beach and Zack was located in approximately 5 feet of water. It is estimated that he was under water for approximately 7 to 10 minutes. CPR was started on the boy as soon as he was pulled from the water and continued until he was pronounced dead at Bloomington Hospital.

Zack is the son of Sara Walls and Jonathan Colvin, both of Bedford, IN. He was not wearing any type of life jacket or other flotation device.

The drowning is being investigated by Indiana Conservation Officer John Fennig.
