Spring Fishing Best ice out methods?

Discussion in 'Indiana Pan Fishing' started by goggleye57, Feb 20, 2007.

  1. Ice will probably stay good this weekend -maybe till next weekend-

What's the best way to catch ice out bluegills?

What's the best way to catch ice out crappies?

What's the best way to catch ice out perch?
  2. In the small ponds that I ice fish, I anchor over the same "deep" weed beds that I drilled over. That seems to be where the want to stay almost until time to spawn.

  3. Anyone know what temperature signals perch spawn?
  4. Perch spawn in the spring when the water temperature is between 44 and 55 degrees.
  5. The perch I caught yesterday had eggs in them (and the males were "full" too).
  6. I've started fishing pretty hard for panfish during the last-ice/ice-off periods the last couple of years. I usually concentrate on weedbeds in 7 to 10 feet of water. For the perch and crappies, I'll use minnows 1 to 3 feet off of the bottom. For bluegills, I'll use ice fishing hooks on bobbers. I've done pretty well with these set-ups the last couple of years.
  7. The perch I caught a few days ago were about to burst they were so full of eggs. Should be real soon, if not now.. Of course I'm only guessing..
